The Outstanding Elementary Education Student at U.A.B. in 1993. Here she made the Presidential Honor Roll – U.A.B. for seven consecutive quarters, and was tapped for Phi Beta Kappa, Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, and Golden Key Honor Society.
Jan holds an M.S. in Education from U.A.B. 1996, with a 4.0 G.P.A. and a B.S. in Education from U.A.B. 1993, summa cum laude, and she attended Jefferson State Community College from 1988 until 1990.
Sallie Mae First Class Teacher Nominee 1994, Jan Walsh was selected as nominee for Oneonta City School System as the outstanding first year teacher in United States
Prior to UAB, Jan was named The Outstanding Elementary Education Student at Jefferson State Community College in 1990.
Grant Writer/Recipient, Jan Walsh wrote and was the recipient of Alabama Power Grant 1994.
Alabama State Council on the Arts funded grants Jan wrote in 1995, 1996, 1997 for her literary magazine, Expressions.
Transcribing Through Technology, Alabama Technology Conference 1996, Jan Walsh was an invited Presenter of “Transcribing Through Technology” – educational presentation on the development of a literary magazine to teach English and writing.
At Oneonta City Schools, Jan and her students developed a literary magazine, Expressions, publishing their writing and art. And I wrote, and was awarded, many grants to fund its publication. Annually each year’s magazine won Columbia Scholastic Press Association’s Gold Awards. In 1997, we won its highest honor, a Crown Award, which I received at Columbia University, as Expressions was the only middle school magazine to ever win this award. She also enjoyed serving on CSPA’s Board of Judges during her tenure as a teacher.
